OUR STORY
As did many during the COVID lockdown, Craig McIntyre and Jennifer Tapscott took the opportunity to redefine their lives. A chance opportunity to buy a large parcel of land in the City of Kingston promoted Craig’s desire to return to his roots. Growing up on a farm just outside of Perth, ON, Craig was raised with a traditional view on agriculture but knew the 101 acres they were buying would not support their lifestyle in its current capacity.
Instead, he chose to focus on growing specialty crops, primarily garlic and lavender complimented by a market garden and wedding venue. “We are building something that we want to share with others. A place to come a put your hands in the dirt and earn your sleep. We call it Agri-therapy.” Craig has taken on the role full time and Jennifer is continuing her role as a clinical psychologist away from the farm.
One of the strongest motivating factors in building their farm was their 8-year-old son, Ciarán. “We looked at the opportunity we had in being able to raise him on a working farm. He has a vegetable stand on Saturdays in the summer and aside from all the work to grow the products he learns entrepreneurial skills working his own small business.”
“Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good morals, and happiness.” — Thomas Jefferson
